Oedipus rex
Oedipus is the son of Laius and Jocasta, King and Queen of Thebes. Warned in a prophecy that Oedipus will grow up to murder his father and marry his mother, Laius and Jocasta plan for his death by telling a herder to kill the child. But the herder doesn't want to kill Oedipus, so gives him to another herder. Oedipus is then raised by the other king and queen near them as their own. Later, Oedipus hears the prophecy and flees the new kingdom, thinking he can avoid the truth. Along the way he kills a stranger, who turns out to be his father, and also solves a riddle, saving Thebes and becoming her king.
